New Year's and Resolutions, 2019

New Year's Eve:
The big news was, we actually had plans πŸŽ‰
We went to a party at the Cindrich's up the street and brought Uncle Scotty along. Later, the Wadsworth's came over and we watched our new favorite show,

... and we played "Name That 80's Tune." Rob won.
Way to represent, babe.
And apparently I took a vacation from shooting photos after Christmas.

My New Year's Resolutions for 2019 included these categories (with some examples):

SPIRITUAL
With the new 2-hour Church change, we came up with our goal outline for our Sabbath Family Home Study:

Hymn
Prayer
Memorization: Working with the boys on memorizing "The Living Christ" and "The Proclamation on the Family" one or two sentences per week. I post them on the fridge and cabinets and add to it weekly (or when they're ready to move ahead).

Discussion: "Come Follow Me" manual, gospel topic essays
Journaling
Family Testimony Meeting on Fast Sundays

PHYSICAL
1. Drink 60 oz. water a day (20 oz by lunchtime, 20 oz by dinner, and 20 oz by bedtime)
2. Incorporate more veggies for snacks and in lunches and dinners. I looked up how to store all the different veggies and then pre-cut them and/or bagged them for convenience.

Along those lines—I've always thought if I could figure out how to get my nutrition into cookie form, I'd be set. The closest I've come to my ideal food are MK's Protein Balls:

1 cup dry oatmeal or oats
2/3 cup toasted coconut flakes
½ cup peanut butter
½ cup ground flax seed
½ cup dark chocolate chips or cacao nibs, or cut up a chocolate protein bar into small chunks
1/3 cup agave or honey
1 Tbs chia seeds
1 tsp vanilla extract

Stir all ingredients together in a medium bowl until thoroughly mixed. Cover and let chill in the refrigerator for half an hour.

Once chilled, roll into balls of whatever size you would like. (Try about 1” in diameter.) Store in an airtight container and keep refrigerated for up to 1 week.

When I ask Cy to ball them up, we call them Protein "Shapes...." 😜

MK also showed me this overview by TOSH Sports Training for optimal foods before, during, and after workouts ✅

FINANCIAL
I want to keep better tabs on what I spend in my personal budget and in my holiday/misc budget. I watched Jordan Page's Youtube channel (funcheaporfree.com) and converted to one of her systems. I printed out her monthly "envelope" budget sheets and keep the current month in my wallet to track weekly.

CY said his budget resolution is to spend over $100 a month πŸ˜‚

WIFERY
1. "Wubdown Wednesdays" have been so rewarding, so I want to continue those and learn more massage techniques.
2. I also want to remember to actively listen first (not talk first) and also to listen to understand, not to respond.
3. Rob and I are going to try not to put so much pressure on ourselves to "be on the same page" all the time. For Rob and I, two oldest children who come at issues from totally different angles and who are passionate about our kids and are each convinced we are "right," being on the same page can come with a lot of conflict and frustration. Instead, we're going to each parent the kids according to what we feel is important and honor and respect the other parent's right to parent that way, too. For example, Rob wants our kids to have the fun of Fruit Loops and Cookie Crisp in the morning, and I want to ban Ramen noodles and white bread. Done ✅  (except the kids refuse to eat wheat bread sandwiches, so I let that one slide). This won't work in some situations, but hopefully it will in others. This basically goes against a lot of what we've heard/read are best parenting practices, so ... heaven help us 😁😬

MOTHERING
Now that two of our kids are out of the house, I want to make sure I make an effort to nurture those relationships as well as with the kids at home (lunches, workouts, texts, family dinners, game nights, shopping, and Costa Vida or Subway late night 2nd dinners for the growing boys...).

RELATIONSHIPS (friends, extended family, ministering sisters)
I want to make an effort to be a better friend, daughter, sister, and aunt with more frequent contact and thoughtfulness, so I've outlined some things I can work on.
