His name is Stockton Taffy

Cam gets crazy about leprechauns, gnomes, and tooth fairies, so as Christmas approached he waited fervently for his very own Elf to make an appearance. And play a few tricks. And report back to Santa how naughty everyone in the family is... except for Cam ;)

Stockton quickly made a couple of friends in Crew and Cam Bam Jr.

...and then he began a tour of the house, starting with the Christmas tree.

(I found most of these ideas on the internet.)

(Two gallons of milk in the fridge is standard as long as Getty's in the house.)

Stockton made a few more friends...

and a couple of enemies...

He did a good job of entertaining himself while Cam was at school.

In fact, he was having so much fun, he forgot Santa's assignment...

More tricks... (how could he resist this face?)

He even met a cute girl on Saturday night. Too sweet ;)

Stockton doesn't leave until Christmas Eve, so I might add to this post later...

POST EDIT:

We found him playing a little b-ball this morning...

then snuggling with Cam and Griff's snowman.

Locked out!

Wonder what he's got up his sleeve for Christmas Eve? ... to be continued.

Cy aka Studmuffin

"Mia! Which one of us is hotter?"

First Place All-school, you know it.

It was a 2-mile race (in October). He did it in just over 14 minutes. Two days later, he was still strutting his stuff.

Cy dancing.... stud or muffin—you be the judge

(Elle's Festival of Trees replica is behind him.)

Summer fun

Cub pack meeting Webelos award and Arrow of Light, graduating to 11-year-old boy scouts

Rob says with that ring he looks married, haha
He's all mine for now ;)

One day in a parking lot

I remember one day in particular. I had taken Cam and Elle to the gym with me. I signed them out of the daycare, and we walked into the parking lot. I remember it was cold and we had our coats on, so it was within maybe weeks of Elle's accident. I asked her to hold my hand and recited what I had often told her, "Hold my hand because you're not tall enough for drivers to see you and they could run over you, and you would have to go to the hospital and you might die."

Looking back, I'm surprised that I was so graphic with her—it's not like me. I've made our kids aware of dangers but have been careful not to cause them to be fearful. I had crossed that line several times with her in this case. For the first time, she asked me,

"What would you do?"

I remember her looking up at me, waiting for my answer. I didn't know what to say.

"I would be so, so, so, so sad." I shook my head, "I can't even think about it."

This foreshadowing of what was soon to come to pass makes me wonder... did she know?

... did she know on some level?

Did I know on some level?

My dad didn't think he'd live past age 50. He often said that when he died, he wanted it to be of a massive heart attack. In his 50's he told us what he wanted engraved on his headstone, the word "Perspective." And we, his family, didn't think it was particularly strange that he talked this way about his death.

Without signs or symptoms, he died at age 56 of a massive heart attack in a grocery store.

I think about these correlations and wonder if somehow we recognized these events would unfold as part of God's plan for our lives.

Having an in-tact plan is important to me. Because my plan has died. And there's no going back. I need to have confidence that the "new" plan was always the plan. That it's the best plan. That my plan was always inferior, short-sighted, and inadequate. With that confidence, I can hope to adjust.

Getty's Version of Fun

Friday night...

First it was Getty and these three girls, who checked out the new sledding hill across the way....

(That hose is attached to the best ever heater—thanks, Mike!)
Then the guys showed up for pizza. They played cards and "poop on your neighbor" with dares that involved pickle juice and vinegar drinking, some cayenne pepper dares, eating whipped cream out of someone else's hand, and running around the house outside in the 4-degree snowy weather—barefoot. They couldn't find the taser (it's low voltage, but still!) for "taser tag," their current favorite game played on the main and upper floors of our darkened house, so they headed to the spooky unfinished basement for "mafia" and "murder in the dark."
Later it was movies, chips & salsa, and leftover Halloween candy.

Fun, eighth-grade style :)

Mia and her girlies, Black Friday, and a Boy-oh-boy

The girls decided they wanted to spend the day spoiling Abby with a little beauty TLC.
Some hunky guys wanted in on the fun, so they stopped by for some game time.

Then, Black Friday! We got up at 2:00 a.m. and headed to Park City. Most of the shoppers had gone to bed by the time we got there, so we just ran in and out of the outlets with the booty. Late morning we sat down for my favorite french toast breakfast at Kneaders and then headed home about 11 a.m. ...

That's when Mia got ready for work from noon til 5:30.

Not done yet.

Date at Temple Square til late.

Not sure what to say about these pics...

Ok, NOW you can go to sleep, Mi.

Bits of Cam

Cam and I were leaving as Cy was just about to get home, so Cam left this note by Cy's dinner plate and cracked himself up:

2nd grade award for kind acts

Way back in the summertime, pool cliff jumping with Griff

... and he got his first belt loops as a Wolf Cub

Pop everyone else's balloon game

Back to Christmastime, Cam told me yesterday, "Tell Santa he doesn't have to make the Slugterra blaster, he can just get it from ToysRUs."

One day Cam wandered over to me and said, "I'm sad about Elle. I just feel like it'll never be as much fun again."

I bet his lonely heart will make for a sweet, attentive dad one day.

Halloween Bark

So, Halloween was over, um, 26 days ago, but I love this stuff. I found the recipe on Pioneer Woman. Here's the link. Her recipes are fail proof, and everything I've made from her blog is a hit over here.

I wrapped some up for the 16-year-olds in my Sunday School class and called it "Autumn Bark" :) I bribe them to make thoughtful comments.

It works :)

Sadie's, 2013

What the heck—this looks like an engagement or newlywed pic! haha

Sadie's Day date: Four-wheeling in Tibble Fork Canyon. "It was so fun. We got so muddy, ha!"

Sadie's Date Night: Cops and Robbers. I think the girls liked calling the shots.

Dinner at Chilis, the dance, and then a horror movie.

Daniel. looks. SCARY. Right? Glad he watches out for our little Mia-bomb.
